Splendid performance machine for F5J enthusiasts.
The F5J (unofficial category very popular in the USA), what is it?
In fact, it's a mix of F3J (FAI category for thermal flight) and F5 (electric category).
To summarize, instead of launching your glider with a winch, you launch it with the electric motor you have in your nose and then you fly, fly, fly...
The flaps allow you to slightly camber the profile to better exploit the "rising" areas.
Directed in negative, they allow you to accelerate forward. By directing them a lot and mixing them with the ailerons (crocodile mix), they allow you to go straight forward, to stop the glider!
