The L-39 Skyfox is a military trainer and light attack aircraft designed and built by Czech company Aero Vodochody. It is the successor to the legendary Aero L-39 Albatros of the Cold War era. While the successful basic concept remains the same, this is an entirely new design using composite materials, a modern turbofan engine and the latest avionics, including HUD displays. The new "wet" wing, with its integrated fuel tank, makes the Skyfox instantly recognizable - gone are the characteristic tanks on the wingtips of the Albatros.
The L-39 Skyfox is powered by a fuel-efficient turbofan engine, the Williams International FJ44-4M, making operating costs comparable to those of contemporary turboprop trainer aircraft. Five external carrying points under the wing and fuselage can carry up to 1360 kg of payload: 2 external fuel tanks, 12.7 mm or 20 mm gun pods, unguided rocket blocks, 227 kg Mk. 82 free-fall bombs, laser-guided GBU-12 Paveway bombs, CATM or AIM-9 Sidewinder infrared air-to-air missiles, reconnaissance pods, etc.
Series production began in May 2023 with aircraft for the Czech, Hungarian and Vietnamese air forces. At the same time, a program to upgrade the original Albatros L-39 using Skyfox engines and avionics is underway. So it looks like there'll be no shortage of Czech trainer aircraft in the skies in the future... And now you can enjoy the flight with our semi-scale model of this magnificent EDF fan-powered jet with a 1088 mm wingspan.
The carefully carbon-reinforced EPO foam fuselage is fitted with the 80 mm EDF fan with C3552-2000 brushless motor, as well as the KAVAN R-100SB Plus speed controller, featuring a powerful SBEC stabilizer needed to power the 8 servos on board. The removable upper fuselage tail section, secured by screws, provides easy access to the fan and motor. The removable canopy is secured by a hook at the front and a latch at the rear. The cabin compartment offers ample space for your receiver and flight pack.
The one-piece EPO wing is reinforced with carbon ribs and joined by a carbon sleeve. The wing is bolted to the fuselage. Ailerons and flaps are controlled by two pairs of servos installed in the wing, operated by short cable linkages. LED position and landing lights are also fitted.
The tailplane is made of EPO foam. Rudder and elevator servos are installed in the fin and fuselage.
The retractable tricycle landing gear features a directional nose gear. All legs are telescopic and spring-loaded.
The L-39 is powered by an 80 mm EDF fan with 11-blade rotor, C3552-2000 brushless motor and KAVAN R-100SB Plus 100A speed controller.
You'll need a 22.2V 3700-5000mAh flight pack (at least 40C, 60C preferred) to fly your Skyfox.
You'll need at least a 6-channel remote to control your Skyfox; even a non-computer radio would work, as the aileron, flap, rudder and directional nosewheel servos are controlled by one channel each (connected via the pre-installed connection board). The card also powers the LED lights; the connected sequencer controls retraction. The instruction manual contains a thoroughly tested configuration chart to help you easily set up the L-39.
