This was the first large ship to be built entirely in France, both in design and execution. Commissioned by Cardinal Richelieu, its construction was entrusted to the famous master carpenter Charlies Morieur of Dieppe. Completed in 1636 at the La Roche Bernard shipyard, the vessel was one of the most imposing of its time. Particular attention was paid to the ship's sculptural decoration, to which many artists and engravers contributed.
The box is distinguished by the famous double planking and couples principle that characterizes the hull construction, as well as by the quality of the workmanship.
