The Hangar 9® J-3 Cub 10cc offers a classic, practical giant-scale flying experience with the advantages of lightweight, rigid wood composite construction. It is available in ARF and PNP versions.
Features
With almost 20,000 produced between 1938 and 1947, and over 5,000 still registered and flying today, the J-3 Cub remains one of the most influential and popular aircraft ever produced by Piper. It was originally designed as a light trainer aircraft, which also led to clipped-wing variants: Super and Carbon Cub. The Hangar 9® J-3 Cub 10cc is a 1/5th scale replica of the original that offers a classic look and flying experience that you can't get with other, more modern Cub models. It features the advantages of lightweight, rigid and solid wooden construction covered with genuine UltraCote® film. What's more, it's available in an ARF version that lets you install nitro, petrol or electric power with the electronics you prefer. It's also available in a time- and money-saving PNP version, equipped with four factory-installed servos, Smart ESC and Spektrum™ Avian™ motor compatible 4S to 6S.
The Hangar 9® J-3 Cub 10cc is an 82.5-inch (2.1-m) giant-scale replica of the aviation icon. It's designed to offer the classic look and flying experience of the original with modern features and conveniences, including a 2-piece wing with slots to hold the wing tube in the fuselage during storage and transport. The ARF version arrives mostly factory-assembled, and allows you to install a 4-stroke .62 nitro engine or a 4-stroke 11 cc petrol engine and other engines of similar class, or an equivalent power system and your preferred electronics. The PNP version requires no glue for assembly. It features four factory-installed Spektrum A6380 digital and metal-geared servos, an Avian 4260-480Kv outrunner motor compatible with 4S to 6S, and a 70-amp Smart Lite ESC that can provide a variety of telemetry data linked to the power system with Smart and non-Smart batteries via compatible receivers and Spektrum AirWare-equipped transmitters.
Both versions include scaled landing gear with standard wheels and Cub hubcaps. You can also install wheel skirts or floats using the set of custom float mounts (all sold separately). The balsa lite-ply airframe comes factory-finished with a genuine UltraCote® film coating, and features many scale details such as: transparent windows, wing struts, long reinforcing cables and much more. And it all combines to deliver the classic "Cub" experience, perfect for a wide range of intermediate to experienced pilots!
Skill Level 3 aircraft, like this one, are suitable for more experienced RC pilots who already have the skills needed to assemble, configure and fly models of a similar class. This ARF version requires more experience and assembly skills than the PNP version, as you'll need to select and install a suitable power system and electronics. You should have the experience and skills necessary to successfully fly models such as the E-flite Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5 m, Turbo Timber SWS 2.0 m, Carbon-Z Cessna 150T 2.1 m, Carbon-Z Cub SS 2.1 m or other models of similar class. before attempting to fly the J-3 Cub 10cc.
The balsa lite-ply airframe is lightweight, yet rigid and sturdy. Best of all, it comes mostly factory-assembled with genuine UltraCote cover film. The PNP version also includes durable, factory-installed Spektrum A6380 digital and metal-geared servos. And in the unfortunate event that you damage airframe parts or components and can't repair them, a full range of spare parts is readily available.
This Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) version comes mostly factory-assembled, and is ready to accept a 4-stroke .62 nitro engine, or a 4-stroke 11 cc petrol engine and other engines of a similar class, or an equivalent electrical power system and electronics, whichever you prefer.
The PNP J-3 Cub 10cc version comes with factory-installed power supply and servos, and no glue is required for final assembly, so it can be ready to fly in a matter of hours. The ARF version is mainly factory-assembled, and is ready to fly after the typical final assembly of the power system and electronics installation.
A large upper hatch with windscreen, transparent windows, seats and pilot bust add to its proud appearance, as do struts, tail reinforcement cables and other details.
Landing gear with fabric canopy held in place by rubber bands and standard wheels with Cub hubcaps are included. You can also install lightweight DU-BRO treaded wheels or wheel skirts (both optional) when flying on paved and other smooth surfaces. You can also install the optional silver-painted float (sold separately) and its custom bracket sets (sold separately) for flying on large ponds and lakes!
